We will play with the mindset that if we win against Bangladesh, we will enter the ‘Super-8’: Monty Desai

National cricket team head coach Monty Desai has said that the Nepali team will play with high confidence in the match against Bangladesh.

He said that if they can beat Bangladesh, they will compete with the confidence that they will reach the ‘Super-8’. However, Nepal’s chances of reaching the ‘Super-8’ are over.

“We will compete against Bangladesh with the idea that we have crossed the winning line in the match against South Africa yesterday”, says Desai, “We will play with the mindset that if we win tomorrow’s match, we will qualify for the ‘Super-8’ and we will win.”

The match between Nepal and Bangladesh will be played on Monday morning at 5:15 am. Earlier in the pre-match conference held on Sunday, Desai said that the batting potential of the Nepali team is more than what has been seen so far and he also expressed confidence that it will be showcased in the match against Bangladesh.

He hinted at some changes in the team. However, he says that this can be done not only with the aim of giving chance to new players but also with the aim of winning.

The match against Bangladesh will not affect our selection. Therefore, we have also thought of giving chance to talented players”, he said, ”However, homework is being done to see which players can be included who can help Nepal against the strong Bangladesh team.”

Bangladesh is under pressure to win tomorrow’s match to reach the Super Eight. However, Nepal is free from pressure as it has been eliminated from the group stage.

Nepal’s missed chance to create history against South Africa also became a topic of discussion in the pre-match conference.

The ever smiling Monty was a bit emotional. He was finding it difficult to control his emotions as Nepal came very close and was eliminated from the ‘Super-8’ race.

This is very interesting. Until a team crosses the line, it is seen as a failed nation. An associate country like Nepal has never competed against a Test nation South Africa’, coach Desai said, ‘I know the potential of the Nepali team is much more than that. However, even as a sports fan, Nepal has been able to make its mark through that sport. World cricket, a Test nation, has come to know the potential of Nepal.

Desai says that tomorrow’s match against Bangladesh will also test the mental ability of the team.
